The self-claimed Goldman of Dera Sacha Sauda – Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh was sentenced for 20 years of imprisonment for sexually assaulted with two of Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh’s women followers (Dera Sadhvi). It took long 15 years to end the case and punishment.
In April 2002, the Prime Minister, Mr. Atal Bihari Vajpayee received a letter from a Dera Sadhvi of Dera Sacha Sauda that she was sexually assaulted by the leader Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh.
In May 2002 the Punjab and Haryana ordered to inquire the case to Sirsa district.
In September 2002 the district court informed the possibility of sexual harassment to the honorable High court. Honorable High court handed the case to CBI for further investigation.
In December 2002 CBI filed a case against Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh of sextual harassment and criminal activity.
In July 2007 CBI filed the chargesheet against Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh – the Dera chief for sextual exploitation of two of his women followers in Ambala court.
In September 2008 CBI special court charged Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh under Indian Penal Code sections 376 (sextual assult) and 506 (criminal activity).
The two victims recorded their statments in front of the court in between the year 2009 to 2010.
In 2011 the CBI special court moved to Panchkula district and the case of Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh also moved from Ambala to Panchkula CBI court.
In July 2017 special CBI court arranged daily hearings from the followers and also from the Dera chief.
In 25th August Mr. Jagdeep Singh, the judge of special CBI court ordered Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh to appear physically in front of the special CBI court. The Dera chief found guilty and the special CBI court ordered to arrest him. Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh was arrested and CBI took him to judicial custody. The followers of Ram Rahim was protested and the law and order situation was about to take place in Panchkula district. All the internet connections was cut off. The violence took the life of 38 people. CBI took Gurmeet Ram Rahim in Rohtak jail.
In 28th August 2017 the Dera chief was sentenced to 20 years of imprisonment.
